> Primary care

Our primary care is provided by general practitioners, general practioners in training, practice assistants and doctor’s assistants. The care providers are supported by the center manager.

General practitioners
In every health center we have at least two general practitioners (GP’s). Therefor we can offer you primary care every working day from 8 am till 5 pm.

Every doctor has his/her own patients. In principle, you can only make appointments with your own general practitioner. If you have an urgent matter and your own doctor is not present, you can visit one of the other general practitioners.

What you need to know about the Dutch GP system
For important information on the Dutch General Practitioners system, look at GPinfo.nl. We strongly recommend expatriats/people from abroad to first read the information on this website, before visiting a Dutch GP.

Provided care
We offer regular general primary care, including minor surgical procedures and IUD-procedures.

Opening hours

All SAG healthcare centers are open from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Most SAG healthcenters offer some consulting hours early in the morning and in the evening hours.

Emergencies

In life-threatening situations:
Call 112

During opening hours (Monday to Friday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.):
Call the general telephone number of your health care center, and choose option 9. For first aid you can come straight away to the health center. If it’s possible, please call in advance so we can then take your arrival into account. The emergency line must always be available for emergencies. So please only use this number in case of an emergency.

Outside opening hours (Monday to Friday in the evening and night, and in the weekend):
You can call the Huisartsenposten Amsterdam for urgent matters from 5 p.m. till 8 a.m. and during the weekend: 088 – 00 30 600

Appointments

We only have consultation hours by appointment. We do not offer a walk-in consultation hour. Every doctor has his own patients. In principle, you can only make appointments with your own general practitioner. In case of an urgent matter and your own GP is not present, you can go to one of the other GP’s.

You can make an appointment in the following ways:

Through our online patient portal. You need to be registered with SAG, and you must have a portal account. For information on this patient portal, look at Online Services.

Consultations

A regular consultation lasts 15 minutes.

The doctors assistant can schedule a longer appointment in case you:

  • would like to have an introductory meeting with one of our GP’s, or:
  • have multiple complaints, or:
  • have a complicated health issue, or;
  • would like to have a conversation with your GP.

In these cases you need to notify the assistant in advance.
In addition to the regular consultation hour (8 a.m. – 5 p.m.) we offer the following options:

Consult by phone
If you want to speak to your doctor, you can request a consult by phone. Your doctor will call you in the afternoon. This consult is limited to eight patients per day. Please sign up early if you want to make use of this service.

Home visit
In case you are too ill to come to our health center, or there are other reasons why it is really not possible to visit us, then you can request a home visit. We need to have your request before 10 a.m., in order to arrange this home visit the same day. The assistant assesses, if needed together with the general practitioner, if and when a home visit is made. The home visit is not intended for people who do not have the time or transport to go to the regular consultation hour.

eConsult
Through our online patient portal you can ask a question to our GPs. This is only intended for questions that are not urgent. For more information about the online patient portal (MySAG-app), look at Online services.

Repeat prescription

You can request repeat prescriptions for medicines in different ways. Please note that not all prescriptions can be repeated without consultation with your GP, for example sedatives/sleep medication, psychiatric medication and antibiotics.
